Biobanks and IBM’s HealthNex Blog
IBM Healthcare and Life Sciences has a group blog, HealthNex, focusing on new technologies and business models in healthcare - “electronic health records, information-based medicine, e-prescriptions, & the integrated healthcare ecosystem”.
On Monday, Brett Davis, Global Marketing Manager, IBM Information-Based Medicine, posted about biobanking (aka biorepositories or tissue banks) and its role in personalized medicine. Biobanks typically store blood, bone, serum, and/or DNA in subzero conditions that maintain the integrity of biological materials indefinitely.
…combining the wealth of genetic and molecular information now emerging with patient records and other clinical records will help researchers to understand disease at the molecular level, ultimately leading to innovative new personalized therapies and treatments.
