Grand Rounds #51: The Best of This Week’s MedBlogging

by Hsien Hsien Lei, PhD on September 13th, 2005

Violetta at Sneezing Po (aren’t both names nice?) is hosting an artistic version of this week’s Grand Rounds #51, which is organized like a virtual art gallery complete with hors d’oeuvres and wine.

Henry Stern at InsureBlog contributes a second post about genetic testing. Genetic privacy and discrimination are issues that will be at the forefront of medical care as genomic technology becomes increasingly common.

Henry asks:

The question arises, however, as to whether or not carriers should be testing for such potential time bombs. In other words, is it necessarily a good thing that genetics-based underwriting is prohibited? If insurance is truly about risk management, then doesn’t it make sense that a carrier should have an accurate picture of that risk?

I contributed a post on folic acid, genes, and spina bifida. And be sure to check out this week’s featured blog, Spina Bifida Moms.
