Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma and Blog of the Week: Paigee’s Life

by Hsien Hsien Lei, PhD on September 18th, 2005

If you’d like to have your blog featured in this weekly series, please leave a comment below.

This week’s featured blog is Childhood Cancer: Paigee’s Life written by Paige’s father, Chris. Paige was diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma in 2003 at the age of four and received chemotherapy and radiation therapy for twelve months, relapsed six months later, and in the words of her father - “She will not reach her 7th birthday.”

It was very hard for me to read about Paige’s losing battle against cancer. I found myself needing to take deep breaths when I saw pictures of Paige hugging her beloved poodle, Poodah, and read her father’s daily updates. Despite it all, Paige, Chris, her mother Rosie, and their extended family have still had their adventures and fun times. Paige’s blog gives us love, gratitude, happiness, sorrow, and all the emotions in between.

Last Friday, Chris wrote:

I can’t say she isn’t like me, she can still eat candy even though she is vomiting up everthing that goes down. I guess in some sick twisted way I’m still trying to find ways that prove she isn’t really dying.

Thank you for sharing your story, Paige, Rosie, and Chris. Our thoughts are with you.

Update: Paigee passed away on October 20, 2005.
