This week’s featured blog is Adventures of a Born Again Gym Bunny written by YP in Leeds, United Kingdom. Most of us would like to lose some weight but few of us actually succeed at losing more than a few pounds if that. YP, however, has been steadly losing weight since July 13, 2004 when she weighed 118 kg (260 lbs). As of September 28, 2005, YP has lost more than 34 kg (75 lbs) and now weighs 84.3 kg.

In August, YP wrote:

It’s not genetics or bad luck that made me obese. It was what I ate. It wasn’t even what my parents gave me to eat when I was growing up. It was the foods I chose for myself from my early 20s until the middle of last year. I’m blowing my last excuse out of the water, and I’m not going to allow myself to use it. I refuse to accept that my destiny is being an obese person, and I never should have let myself get into that way of thinking.

I applaud her honesty and bravery. YP is inspirational not only because she’s succeeding at losing weight, but also because she’s re-thinking her entire approach to life. Being overweight not only affects us physically, it affects us mentally as well. One thing that improves health and attitude is exercise and YP goes to the gym every morning. Her fine example is one that we would all do well to follow.
