Diets Tailored To Your Genes
Nutrigenomics seems to be a favorite topic because I see it come up at least once a month. A number of different companies are offering DNA test kits that claim to develop personalized diets based on your genetic make-up. One such company is Sciona Inc.
Sciona has $109 DNA test kits that you can buy at retail pharmacies, grocery stores, or online. And they sure know how to rake in that money because there are five kits: heart health (13 genes), bone health (4 genes), insulin resistance (5 genes), antioxidant detoxification (6 genes), and inflammation health (6 genes).
Dr. Ruth DeBusk, author of Genetics: The Nutrition Connection:
Do we know everything we’d like to know? No… Do we know enough to start introducing this type of technology and start the long process of educating people? I would say yes.
Personally, I would rather spend my money on some vitamins, exercise clothes, or equipment, but if they offered me a kit, I’d be keen to try it. Anybody from Sciona reading? I’d report the results here of course.
