Colon Cancer and Blog of the Week: Cancergiggles

by Hsien Hsien Lei, PhD on October 29th, 2005

If you’d like to have your blog featured in this weekly series, please leave a comment below.

This week’s featured blog is Cancergiggles written by Cass Brown. Diagnosed with colon cancer in 2000, he decided right away that honesty was the best policy; honesty for himself, his family, his friends, and his caregivers.

I have heard many people protest that if they had cancer, they wouldn’t want to know. This is really, really dumb. Have you ever had a nightmare about something real? For almost everybody, the answer is NO. It is the unknown, the shadowy stuff, that normally causes fear. Human beings are actually pretty good at handling real situations and you will probably surprise yourself.

Cass recently published a book of essays about cancer: Cancergiggles: Mountains Are Easy, which has garnered him worldwide attention. After reading his blog, I can see that the attention is well-deserved.

For more information on colon cancer, see my recent post on a DNA blood test for colon cancer.
