Stroke and Blog of the Week: My Dad Had a Stroke

by Hsien Hsien Lei, PhD on November 19th, 2005

This week’s featured blog is My Dad Had a Stroke written by Gart34. Gart’s father suffered a stroke on October 17, 2005, and Gart began to keep a blog about her family’s experience earlier this month as a way to chronicle (almost) daily events and also as a form of therapy.

Gart’s father has been in the hospital for several weeks now and they’ve had to face the possibility that he may never come home. On November 11th, Gart wrote:

For the first time I had to admit to myself that my Dad might not come home. I don’t mean just for Christmas, but forever. I never wanted to entertain those possibilities, but now I have to. …3 weeks in the hospital. 3 weeks in acute care. We’ll never be the same again.

Gart34 writes of the struggle balancing work, family, and health crisis. Her blog is one that many caregivers will relate to.
