SLC6A14 Gene and Obesity
University of Helsinki researcher Elina Suviolahti has found an association between X-chromosome gene SLC6A14 and obesity. The gene appears to be involved in obesity and glucose metabolism in both mice and humans, with a stronger association in men.
Ms. Suviolahti wisely said,
There is strong evidence that this is the ‘fat gene’ we are looking for, or one very close to it. We have to bear in mind, however, that this gene, or any other, by itself does not cause obesity. It only increases the risk when combined with environmental factors.
We may have genetic factors that make us susceptible to obesity, but the bottom line is that so far the best option in weight control is still the same old healthy food and exercise regime.

Fucking… DAMMIT.
Look, I’m all for this website, Hsien, and I think you do an amazing job. I’m always impressed by what I read.
But if you don’t come up with someone who finds the protien, or the gene, or the blood cell that makes me fat and then find a way to fix it so that I can sit on my ass and eat cookies all day and look like a person who runs 12 miles and lives off of lettuce, then WHAT GOOD ARE YOU TO ME ANYWAY??
Sheesh.
