Drug Addiction and Blog of the Week: US Drug Rehab Centers

by Hsien Hsien Lei, PhD on March 19th, 2006

This week’s featured blog is US Drug Rehab Centers written by Terry Keith. The blog is actually part of the US Drug Rehab Centers directory which has listings for residential drug treatment and outpatient drug rehabilitation programs in the U.S.

The US Drug Rehab Centers blog is full of helpful information on drug rehab and addiction. In his latest post, Terry wrote about life after rehab:

When you leave a drug or alcohol rehab there are the highest of hopes that all will go well and your life is headed in a new direction. As part of your relapse prevention plan it might be wise to have clear, clear definitions of your sobriety. There should be a clear set of behaviors that are to followed every day and every week to insure you stay safe. Also after rehab you should have a clear list of things that indicate you are headed towards a relapse. These are signs that you need to talk with someone before a slip might occur.

The extensive archives cover a broad range of topics that would be helpful to anyone who wants to learn more about drug addiction.

For more information on the genetics of drug addiction, see DAT1 Gene Variant Increases Risk of Cocaine Addiction.

I read Terry’s blog, and have to admit I’m happy to see the subject of addiction being addressed. I’ve been in the substance abuse field for many years, and have worked with health professionals, social service agencies, addicts, addict’s families, and their children.Drug and alchol abuse is reaching epidemic proportions in the US, and most treatment centers and residential rehabs are hard pressed to find open beds (they call it a “census”) to help meet the demand. The truth, however, may be that many addicts, abandoned by family and friends, lack the insurance coverage or the ability to pay. It is , also, true that if an addict does have insurance coverage or high economic worth, the number of available rehabs increases dramatically. Operating treatment centers and rehabs is incredibly expensive.
Having said this, I hope and trust my comment will generate more discussion on how we can meet this crisis because, inevitably, it’s not just the addict that is hurt. The addict’s spouse, family, friends, and especially their children suffer more in the long run.

I don’t have an opinion just asking for help, my daugther was in rehab in december and i now have my son-law in for alchol he still there but my daugther was using vicadin for 12 years i now think she is having a few drinks once in awhile she wanted to stay busy after she came out so she started going to play poker, she is 39 and married with 3 children the smallest is 3 she has never had friends when she was on vicadin because she slept all the time i think it is a good idea she has friends but not the poker club friend because i feel she is slowly going to be drug back down because misery loves company. what can i do to help her.

You are correct to be concerned. Having a few drinks is dangerous, even if alcohol was never her drug of choice. Alcohol lowers inhibitions and leads to poorer choices. Studies on cocaine relapse clearly show “a few drinks” preceded the relapse in a large % of cases.

My daughter is a drug addict. It started when she was prescribed to pain killers at the age of 14. She got them from the orthodontist when she got her braces on. Nice, huh? She’s 20 now, did a year in jail, 2 months of rehab and 4 months more in a halfway house, all mandated by the courts. I agree with your article and comments and I have tried to tell people this over and over. Drug addiction is a disease and should be treated as one. I had words with my daughters probation officer once and told him being on Probation doesn’t cure addiction. The problem is, we live in a small town, and frankly, the whole judicial system is on a power trip and they don’t give up or let up on these kids. They pound them into the ground every chance they get. So, for the next 5 years, my daughter is on parole and will be watched closely. So far, she’s clean, and has been out of jail for 15 months. I just have to pray it continues.

I understand how drug and alcohol addiction can be a tough thing to overcome. Many people never want help or are scared to ask for help. We help families with Oklahoma Intervention and then escort them to rehab.

When a person is suffering from a drug or alcohol addiction and doesn’t want help than you should look at doing an 3) Intervention.

There are many drug treatment methods available for people suffering from drug or alcohol addiction. Many drug rehabilitation centers have come into existence since last few years to meet the requirement for addiction treatment. The drug rehabs provide all the facilities that help patients to recover fast.

The patient suffering from drug addiction firstly needs to go to the drug counselor. The drug counselor is the treatment part of addiction in which the drug addict meets the counselor for getting necessary details about his illness and the remedies.

When you choose a a href=”http://www.drug-rehab.ca”>Drug treatment. You need to make sure that it will achieve this. It will restore his ability. It will get the person to function well in life without substitute. Addiction is a way to get rid of a physical or emotional pain. As an example, if someone is shy. He takes a beer and then start to talk. Every time that he will need to communicate that’s the via he will use to being able to function socially. This is a classic example of how an sddiction will start. Instead of getting the person to “live with his problem”. You need to help the person to improve his ability. Drugs and alcohol are a consequence of an inability to deal with life.
Yes addiction can destroy relationships and self esteem…take the step to get better!

Canterbury Institute provides medical alternatives that treat the brain disease of addiction, eliminating cravings and withdrawal symptoms.
Its Prometa treatment protocol is comprised of nutritional supplements, FDA-approved oral and IV medications administered in a unique dosing algorithm, as well as psychosocial or other recovery-oriented therapy. For drug and alcohol addicts the pain and hunger for the substance is like a dying hunger for food! Though we must first understand how they became addicted to drugs or alcohol.

The substance is a quick getaway from the stressful dealings in life. Many find it hard to deal with and resort to drugs and alcohol.
The first crucial step is taking the step to getting treatment! Following the treatment is the commitment to receive the after care program and continuing with it.

We understand how hard it is to have a member of the family or a friend, go through this hard time. We recomend a great Drug rehabilitation in New York where they can get all the proper information they need!
