Genentech Center for the History of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology
In celebration of their 30th anniversary, Genentech (check out their domain name, is that perfect or what?) has donated $2.5 million to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL). The gift will be used to establish the Genentech Center for the History of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the CSHL Carnegie Building where genetics research got its start. The work of molecular biology pioneers will be archived at the Center:

I am a Genentech alumni and did my post doc under Dave Goedel. My daughter is writing a paper on the history of Biotechnology. I recall years ago that a book was writen about the early days of Genentech, possibly by Bob Swanson. Would you have a reference to this book.

James: Welcome to Genetics and Health! There are a number of books available on the history of biotech that mention Robert Swanson and Genentech including:
From Alchemy to IPO: The Business of Biotechnology by Cynthia Robbins-Roth
Evolutionary Innovations: The Business of Biotechnology by Maureen McKelvey
Genentech also has the corporate chronology online.
