DNA in Spittle Incriminates Policeman

by Hsien Hsien Lei, PhD on January 11th, 2007

Ever thought about keying a car because it took up two parking spaces? Ever thought about “returning” a piece of cat poop to your neighbor’s doorstep because their cat thinks your garden is her toilet? Ever thought about spitting in someone’s face or on a piece of their property because they ticked you off?

Well, DON’T.

baby spitDetective Chief Superintendent Kevin Hamilton was fined, issued a restraining order, and (forced?) to resign from his job because DNA evidence showed that he had spit a total of 23 times on two neighbors’ cars. He did not like their dogs barking, people trespassing on his property, and the blame they placed on him for two suicides in their neighborhood.

Isn’t DNA such a wonderfully useful thing?
