Gene Love
For this month’s Science and Health Theme Day (hosted at Lively Women), we’re talking about love. And there’s no better way to do it than to share some link love with others who are talking about genetics and how it plays into amore. Some posts are a bit dated but they’re still love-ly. ;)
At Gene Expression, Razib loves love:
Sometimes I wonder if modern Western society tends to idealize the more “manic” form of love than is healthy. Ah…but it feels so gggooooooddd….
At Change of Subject, Eric Zorn refers to psychologist Frank Tallis with regard to astronaut Lisa Marie Nowak wigging out over her obsessive love for a fellow astronaut:
Tallis’ theory is that evolution has hard-wired us for psychopathological romantic obsessions that last “just long enough to ensure the survival of genes from one generation to the next.”
At Brain Based Business, Dr. Ellen Weber refers to a study linking genes with immune function and romantic relationships.
It seems that vertebrate species and humans are inclined to prefer mates who have dissimilar MHC genotypes, rather than similar ones.
