Yesterday, I joked around about setting my DNA sequence to music. It’s not as crazy as you might think. Dr. MA Clark has done just that with some well known DNA sequences. Here’s genetic music based on SRY, the male determining factor.

Hello fellow genetics enthusiasts,
I’m on vacation this week and next. So, head on over to Sandwalk where you can get plenty of gene action with issue #4 of Gene Genie. Genetics and Health won’t be completely lifeless while I’m taking a breather but it will be a little quieter while I try to rejuvenate myself.

After my post yesterday, I hightailed it down to my local newsagent to pick up the 50th anniversary issue of New Scientist. Then I hunkered down at the restaurant next door for some breakfast and delicious science reading.
Oops. Did I put “delicious” in front of the wrong noun?
This issue is cool not least because […]

1. When I was in high school (class of 1990), I learned very little about DNA and molecular biology. Now, PhD’s teach high school biology in some schools and […]

One of the aims of the Genetics and Health interview series is to present different viewpoints on genetics. And today’s interview with Rebecca Taylor of Mary Meets Dolly is definitely a little different than most of what you’ll encounter. Typically, science blogs are written by atheists or people who don’t have a strong religious […]

The Genetics and Health interview series continues this week with Dr. Marie Godfrey, a fellow Johns Hopkins University alumna and author of Geneforum’s The Genetizen blog. Marie tends to be a little more cautious than me when it comes to embracing the genome revolution, but I think that’s good because we need to provide some […]

This week, I interviewed Trisha of Ideas for Women for the Genetics and Health interview series. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t passionate about science, health, and women’s issues so I’m especially pleased to see more blogs by intelligent women devoted to making our world a better place.
1. How did you […]
